In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about encounter of Shivaji and Afzal Khan near Pratapgarh Fort. The Adilshahi Sultanate of Bijapur sent Afzal Khan to reign in Shivaji who was conquering fort after fort. Afzal Khan was one of the strongest commander of Bijapur sultanate. He had a role in the death of Shivaji’s elder brother Sambhaji and Shivaji Father Shahji Bhosle. Afzal khan led the assault against Shivaji from Bijapur in 1659. Shivaji met Afzal Khan on 10 November 1659 and killed him in a truce negotiation. Shivaji’s forces then routed the scattered Adilshahi army.
