In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about the Air India Flight 101 crash in 1966. India’s foremost atomic scientist father of India’s nuclear program, Dr Homi Jehangir Bhabha was on of the passengers of Boeing 707 named Kanchenjanga. The flight crashed into Mont Blanc on 24 January 1966, killing all 117 passengers and crew on board. Back then the French investigation stated that the crash was due to pilot’s fault. Later several independent investigators got interested and several theories regarding the plane crash surfaced. Of those one stated that a CIA fighter jet was involved. Several years after the crash several items including jewelry and newspapers were found at the wreckage site. What led to the conspiracy theories? Is there an iota of truth to them?
