lawyer, a respected judge, and an influential politician. As a judge he had many leading judgements to his credit. He was the nominee of Indian National Congress on the Radcliffe Commission and played an important role in getting Gurdaspur and Firozapur districts into India’s fold. In October 1947 he became the prime Minister of the state of Jammu and Kashmir on insistence of Maharaja Hari Singh and played a key role in the accession of the state to India.
