Tarikh Episode 236
Tarikh is a daily program in which we present you with incidents and stories of noteworthy persons of Indian History in Hindi. In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil narrates the story of black hole of Calcutta or Kolkata. A number of Europeans were crammed into a dungeon by Nawab Sirajuddaula in 1756 after the Nawab of Bengal Invaded fort Williams and captured it. Those who survived told about the hellish Night of June 20 when hundreds of people suffocated in the black hole of Kolkata. Later Britishers used this incident as propaganda to justify the expansion of the British Empire into India. And it led to the battle of Plassey where Robert Clive defeated Nawab Sirajuddaula.
