China’s decision to raise its retirement age is a response to its rapidly aging population and shrinking workforce. The new policy increases the retirement age from 60 to 63 for men, 50 to 55 for blue-collar women workers, and 55 to 58 for white-collar women workers, to be implemented over 15 years starting January 1, 2025. This change aims to mitigate the pressure on China’s pension fund, which is projected to dry up by 2035 due to the country’s aging population.
As India’s elderly population is projected to double in just 20 years, unlike France which took over 100 years to reach the same milestone, will India follow China’s lead in raising the retirement age? Watch to find out.
