A cease-fire agreement between the Hamas militant group and Israel has been confirmed by both parties, along with Washington and Qatar, which helped broker the deal that would bring a temporary halt to the devastating war that is now in its seventh week.
President Joe Biden played a quiet behind-the-scenes role in the brokerage, amid pressure at home and abroad to have the hostages released.
Associated Press White House reporter Seung Min Kim said the president has confirmed that some of those hostages will be American citizens.
