Tarikh | Episode 1026 | 22 July 2025
Rameshwaram’s Ramanathaswamy Temple is one of 12 Jyotirlingas, where Lord Rama worshipped Shiva after defeating Ravana. Sita crafted this Shivlingam from sand.
Built from the 12th century, with major contributions from Sri Lankan kings and later, the Sethupati dynasty of present Tamilnadu, especially for its iconic corridors.
The temple boasts the glorious temple corridor (Chokkattan Mandapam) with 1200 pillars, showcasing distinct Dravidian architecture.
Rameshwaram exhibits a rare architectural similarity between its temple and nearby mosques, reflecting historical trade and religious harmony.
Once a bustling trading town and the site of Vibhishana’s coronation, Dhanushkodi became a ghost town after a devastating 1964 cyclone.
