A 27-year-old Dalit software engineer, Kavin Selva Ganesh, was brutally hacked to death in broad daylight in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli district. The accused is 21-year-old Surjith, brother of the woman Kavin was in a long-term relationship with. The murder is being treated as a caste-based honour killing, as the victim belonged to a Scheduled Caste, while the girl’s family belongs to a Most Backward Class (MBC) community. Shockingly, Surjith’s parents—both police personnel—are also accused of threatening Kavin earlier. After the attack, Surjith surrendered at the local police station. FIR has been registered under BNS and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Kavin’s family has refused to accept his body, demanding strict action against all accused.
