Tensions between Washington and New Delhi are rising as White House Trade Adviser Peter Navarro accused India of acting as a “laundromat” for Russian oil. Navarro warned that President Donald Trump is unlikely to extend the August 27 deadline before doubling tariffs on Indian goods to 50% as punishment for crude imports from Moscow.
Navarro claimed Indian refiners are “profiteering” from Russian oil and fuelling the Ukraine war. He alleged that Russia uses revenue from India’s purchases to build arms, while U.S. taxpayers are forced to spend more on military aid to Kyiv.
