The Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905) was fought over imperial ambitions in Korea and Manchuria, with Russia seeking a year-round warm-water port.
Japan, an emerging military power, decisively defeated the larger Russian forces on land and sea. Key victories included the Siege of Port Arthur, the Battle of Mukden, and the naval Battle of Tsushima.
The war ended with the Treaty of Portsmouth in 1905, brokered by US President Theodore Roosevelt.
The treaty gave Japan control of Port Arthur and influence in Korea, but it failed to fully resolve underlying tensions between the two nations.
Roosevelt’s mediation earned him the 1906 Nobel Peace Prize, making him the first American to receive the award.
Today’s World Geopolitical scenario is much like this when Russia is engaged with one of its neighbors and USA trying to mediate.
