A hunger strike by Maratha community leader Mr. Marotra Range at Azad Maidan has led to significant disruption in Mumbai. Over 10,000 agitators gathered, blocking major roads in South Mumbai near the BMC building and CSMT for more than three hours, causing severe traffic gridlock that trapped commuters, school buses, and even ambulances. The protesters, using the slogan ‘Ek Maratha, Lakh Maratha’, have stated their intent to escalate their agitation. They are demanding that if their vehicles are not permitted to move towards South Mumbai, they will, in turn, block government vehicles from moving further. Despite the protest taking place on a weekend, tourists and regular workers were stuck in the widespread traffic jam.
