NEET PG is the mandatory exam for MBBS and BDS graduates to pursue postgraduate medical courses. The 2025 exam, held on August 3 across 301 cities and 1,052 centres, saw participation from over 2.42 lakh candidates. Conducted in a single shift after a Supreme Court order, it avoided the controversial normalization process used in previous years.
The real debate began after the results were declared on August 19 and the answer key released on August 29. Students alleged irregularities, claiming the answer key was issued without the actual questions, making cross-checking impossible. Many also said their number of attempted questions did not match what appeared in the results. Some reported discrepancies of 100–150 marks between expected and actual scores, while others cited technical glitches such as answers not locking or changing properly during the exam.
A bigger controversy followed NBEMS’s sudden policy change. On August 21, it announced that the full question paper with responses would be released, but within an hour, the decision was rolled back.
Petitioners moved the Supreme Court, demanding transparency. While the Court refused to halt counselling, it has sought NBEMS’s explanation. The next hearing is scheduled for September 12.
