A shocking new scam where criminals are exploiting fear in the name of national security. In Kanpur, three people received WhatsApp calls from fraudsters posing as NIA and ATS officers. These callers falsely accused victims of links to terror attacks, including the recent Delhi blast near Red Fort, and demanded money to “clear” their names.
Sunita Gaur, frightened by the threats, ended up transferring ₹6.66 lakh before realizing it was a scam. But two others — businessman Pankaj Chaddha and retired banker C.K. Tiwari — showed presence of mind. They refused to fall for the pressure tactics and immediately informed the police, escaping both financial loss and mental harassment.
