Prema Wangjom Thongdok from Arunachal Pradesh says Chinese immigration officers at Shanghai Pudong Airport stopped her while she was travelling from London to Japan (with a transit in Shanghai).
She says:
“They took me out of the queue, looked at my Indian passport and said it was invalid. When I asked why, they laughed and told me, ‘Arunachal is not India, it is China. You are Chinese, not Indian. You should get a Chinese passport.’
They kept mocking me, pointing and laughing with the airline staff, saying ‘Arunachal-China, not India.’
I have passed through Shanghai before with no problem. This time they held me for 18 hours. I felt very humiliated.
I called the Indian Embassy in Shanghai and Beijing. Indian officials came quickly, brought me food, spoke to the Chinese officers and finally helped me leave the country.”
