A viral reel of a Blinkit delivery agent has reopened the debate on gig workers’ wages, after he showed how 28 deliveries, 50 km of riding and nearly 15 hours on the road fetched him barely ₹762, about ₹52 an hour, less than what some Indian state notifications mandate as the minimum daily wage and nowhere close to the US minimum wage of 7.25 dollars an hour. The video, posted by “Thapliyal ji vlogs” on Instagram, triggered a flood of comments on burnout, exploitation and tipping culture, and even prompted AAP MP Raghav Chadha to react publicly, calling it proof of “systemic exploitation behind apps and algorithms” rather than a success story of the gig economy.
In his recent Parliament speech, Chadha pressed for proper labour laws, fair pay, humane work hours and social security for gig workers on platforms like Blinkit, pointing out that low wages, crushing targets, zero job security and lack of dignity cannot be the foundation of India’s digital economy. Is this just one rider’s bad day, or a snapshot of what powers your 10‑minute grocery delivery? And what responsibility do governments, companies and customers share in fixing it? To see the numbers, the reel, the parliamentary demand and what a fair deal for gig workers could look like, Watch the Full Video Now!
