The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is preparing to challenge the Delhi High Court’s order suspending the life sentence of former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the 2017 Unnao rape case. The probe agency has studied the court’s decision and will file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) before the Supreme Court at the earliest, sources told India Today. The Delhi High Court granted bail to Sengar, suspending his sentence while his appeal is pending. However, the order does not immediately ensure Sengar’s release because he remains in custody for a separate conviction relating to the death of the rape survivor’s father.
