In a tragic incident in Indore’s Bhagirathpura, toxic water contamination has claimed multiple lives, with the government confirming seven deaths. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has intervened, ordering that ‘no private money should be taken from any patient’ and promising to ‘return the money that has been deposited’ while bearing all medical expenses. The outbreak, caused by sewage leaking into drinking water pipelines, has left over 100 people ill with diarrhoea and vomiting. Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava confirmed the casualties in the city, which has held the ‘cleanest city’ title for eight years.
