In a significant political development in Maharashtra, the ruling Mahayuti alliance has secured a major advantage in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) elections. As per the report, 20 candidates—14 from the BJP and 6 from the Shiv Sena—have been elected unopposed after 20 Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) nominees withdrew their papers. The Congress has strongly condemned the move, terming it ‘candidate chori’ (candidate theft) following earlier allegations of ‘vote chori’, and claiming that candidates were ‘bribed’ to pull out. The bulletin notes that this is a setback for the opposition ahead of the crucial BMC polls, where the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray’s MNS have formed an alliance.
