DMK leaders have strongly criticised the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) decision to summon actor and TVK party chief Vijay to Delhi for questioning regarding the Karur stampede tragedy that claimed 41 lives. DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai questioned the jurisdiction, stating, ‘The FIR is registered in Karur. The incident took place in Karur… Why someone has to be summoned all the way to Delhi?’. He argued the move is against federal principles and creates unnecessary hardship. Separately, senior DMK leader T.K.S. Elangovan alleged political motives, claiming the BJP is known for misusing central agencies like the CBI and ED to pressure opponents. He suggested the summons was a tactic to coerce Vijay, stating the BJP is a ‘washing machine’ for political issues.
