India’s Supreme Court has slammed a Madhya Pradesh Class‑II civil judge’s conduct as “disgusting” and the “grossest grave misconduct,” staying an MP High Court order that had directed his reinstatement. The case goes back to June 2018, when the judge was accused of being drunk in an AC train coach, abusing co‑passengers and the TTE, forcing passengers to pull the emergency chain, and allegedly urinating in the compartment while a woman was present. Though he was acquitted in the Railway Act case after key witnesses turned hostile, a departmental inquiry found him guilty, raising a bigger question: should criminal acquittal wipe out workplace accountability, especially for a judge meant to uphold public trust.
