On December 8, 2025, the Indian-operated tanker Valiant Roar was chased in international waters near the UAE by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Despite being well outside Iranian territory, the IRGC reportedly fired on the vessel, causing damage and injuries before seizing it and taking it to the port of Bandar-e-Jask. There were 18 crew members on board, including 16 Indians, a Sri Lankan and a Bangladeshi. Families say the Iranian forces confined the crew, seized their phones, and later arrested 10 crew members, accusing them of fuel smuggling — a charge the crew rejects. The remaining crew have been left with limited food and communication.
