Thousands of factory workers in Noida took to the streets on April 13, protesting over low wages and demanding salary hikes. The workers have been urging authorities for a long time to increase the minimum monthly salary to ₹18,000–₹20,000 and to revise overtime policies.
According to reports, many workers are currently earning around ₹10,000 per month. They have also raised concerns about poor working conditions, including restrictions on basic needs and alleged mistreatment by company staff.
As protests escalated in some areas, incidents of violence were reported, prompting police intervention. Security forces, including the Rapid Reaction Force (RRF), were deployed to control the situation and maintain law and order.
Uttar Pradesh DGP Rajeev Krishna stated that strict action will be taken against those responsible for turning peaceful protests violent. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed industrial authorities to hold discussions with organizations and management within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav criticized the government, alleging rising injustice, inflation, and unemployment, and held the administration responsible for the situation.
