The Central Government has approved a 2% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA), increasing it from 58% to 60%. This move will benefit around 50 lakh employees and 69 lakh pensioners, leading to a rise in salaries and pensions. The hike will be effective from January 2026, with arrears for three months (Jan–March) to be paid along with the April salary. The decision was taken in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 18.
