The Enforcement Directorate conducted early morning raids at the Ballygunge residence of Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sinha Biswas. The search operations, which began around 6:00 AM at his Fern Road flat, are linked to multiple ongoing investigations. Biswas is under the scanner for his alleged involvement in an extortion and syndicate racket connected to criminal Sona Pappu. Furthermore, he is being investigated in an illegal coal mining case, for which he previously failed to appear before the ED in New Delhi. The agency is also probing his role in a Prevention of Money Laundering Act case concerning the admission of ineligible candidates under the NRI quota in private medical colleges, including KPC Medical College. The raids come just days ahead of the West Bengal assembly elections, prompting the Trinamool Congress to accuse the central government of using agencies for vindictive measures. This action follows recent Income Tax raids on the residence of Debasish Kumar, an aide to Mamata Banerjee. Huge central forces remain deployed outside the DCP’s residence.
