A leading polling agency has decided against releasing exit poll numbers for the West Bengal assembly elections, citing unprecedented voter silence on the ground. Field researchers reported that voters, particularly women, refused to disclose their political preferences out of fear, repeatedly apologising and declining to speak. The agency noted that political messages circulating in the state warned voters against revealing their choices, leading to a lack of representative data. The pollster recalled previous challenges in the state, including researchers being jailed in Jalpaiguri in 2017, but emphasised that the current level of silence is widespread. Meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu, the same agency predicts a massive electoral debut for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. The pollster projects that the party could secure a significant vote share, potentially translating to over one hundred and twenty seats. The surge is reportedly driven by immense popularity among the youth, who are influencing the voting decisions of older family members across both urban and rural demographics.
