India has some of the cheapest data and the highest internet usage in the world. That’s why the idea of taxing internet data usage is being discussed.
Right now, mobile recharges already include 18% GST. But if a ₹1 per GB tax is introduced, a typical 2GB/day user could pay around ₹60 extra every month.
Individually, it may seem small, but across millions of users, it could become a massive revenue source.
But should internet usage really be taxed like this?
