Following an appeal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government has now increased the customs duty levied on the import of gold and silver. The government has raised this duty from 6% to 15%. This comprises a 10% Basic Customs Duty and a 5% Agriculture Infrastructure and Development Cess.
