Himanta Biswa Sarma took the oath as the Chief Minister of Assam, marking his second consecutive term. Along with him, 14 MLAs were sworn in as ministers. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Ministers from BJP-NDA governed states, as well as several Union Ministers and senior BJP leaders.
A faction of senior AIADMK leader CV Shanmugam has extended its support to Vijay’s party, TVK. They further clarified that the AIADMK is not part of any alliance, explicitly stating that the party has no ties with the BJP. This faction, led by CV Shanmugam, reportedly includes at least 30 MLAs. However, Shanmugam emphasized that his objective is not to split the AIADMK.
Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri assured there is no fuel shortage amid the West Asia conflict. He stated India has 60 days of crude oil and LNG stocks, 45 days of LPG, and has ramped up daily LPG production to 54,000 tonnes. He urged citizens not to panic and confirmed refineries are operating at high capacity with secure supply routes.
Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora, arrested by ED in a money laundering case, approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court challenging his arrest as “illegal and unconstitutional.” His counsel argued political vendetta and sought immediate release. The High Court heard the petition but granted no interim relief and adjourned the matter to 14 May 2026.
Criticism over Manoj Agarwal as Bengal Chief SecretaryTMC strongly criticised the appointment of former West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Agarwal as the new Chief Secretary by the BJP government. TMC leaders called it “beyond shameless” and alleged conflict of interest, claiming it proves bias during elections and voter list revision. BJP defended the move, saying it followed seniority norms.
