TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee is now facing an FIR in West Bengal over alleged threatening remarks made during the election campaign. A social activist accused him of using provocative language against Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP workers between April 27 and May 3.
The complaint refers to a speech linked to the alleged attack on TMC candidate Mitali Bag in Hooghly district. Police have registered the case under several sections of the BNS, including criminal intimidation and promoting enmity.
While BJP leaders called it justice, TMC leaders said election speeches should not be dragged after polls are over.
