An India Today investigation has exposed critical vulnerabilities in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) digital on-screen marking system for class twelve examinations. The report reveals that physical mismatches during the scanning stage led to students receiving incorrect answer sheets, resulting in inaccurate grading. Furthermore, a student and ethical hacker successfully breached the evaluation portal in thirty minutes, accessing hardcoded master passwords that allowed the alteration of student grades and sensitive bank details. Despite reports submitted to the Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-In), these security flaws remained unaddressed during the examination period. Simultaneously, technical glitches in the re-evaluation payment gateway prevented thousands of candidates from submitting fees before the deadline. While the Education Ministry is now discussing a digital overhaul with public sector banks to improve the post-examination service platform, many students remain stranded. These findings raise significant concerns regarding the integrity of the CBSE digital evaluation process, data security, and the academic future of affected candidates.
