Debasish Samantaray, a Rajya Sabha member from Odisha, has resigned from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). With his resignation, the number of BJD members in the Rajya Sabha has now come down to five. In his resignation letter sent to former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Samantaray wrote that he was being constantly ignored in the party for the past one year. Three AIADMK MLAs Maragatham Kumaravel, S. Jayakumar, and P. Sathyabama resigned from the Tamil Nadu Assembly today and joined Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) led by Chief Minister Vijay. Their resignations were accepted by the Speaker, triggering by-elections in their constituencies.

The Supreme Court today sharply rebuked the National Testing Agency (NTA) over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy and cancellation. Expressing disappointment that NTA had not learned lessons from previous incidents, the court questioned its functioning and directed it to file an affidavit on compliance with earlier reforms within three days. The bench stressed zero tolerance for any negligence in conducting exams.
