The Central Board of Secondary Education has dropped its third-party vendor for the post-result revaluation process following allegations of corruption and severe data security vulnerabilities. The controversy began when students and ethical hackers identified technical flaws in the digital system, raising concerns about the safety of sensitive student data and the tendering process. A whistleblower also accused the board of bending rules to favour the vendor, which used third-party servers instead of its own. Consequently, the board severed ties with the company and developed a new in-house portal to handle answer sheet photocopies, verification, and revaluation. To ensure data protection, experts from the Indian Institutes of Technology in Kanpur and Madras audited the new platform. Following a thorough review of its architecture and cybersecurity mechanisms, the in-house system received clearance. The board stated that the new portal functioned normally during the application window, successfully processing hundreds of thousands of student requests while being monitored by government technical agencies.
