Pakistan has once again reacted strongly to India’s stance on the suspended Indus Waters Treaty after Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil said that not a single drop of water meant for Pakistan would be allowed to flow there in the coming years. India suspended the treaty following the Pahalgam terror attack and has since accelerated projects aimed at maximizing the utilization of water from the Indus river system within its own territory. Responding to Patil’s remarks, Pakistan reiterated its position that any attempt to stop or significantly reduce water flows would be viewed as a serious threat to its national interests. Islamabad argued that water resources are vital for the livelihood of millions of Pakistanis and cited international legal obligations governing shared rivers. The latest exchange highlights growing tensions between the two countries over water security, regional stability and the future of the Indus Waters Treaty.
