The US President and the Iranian President have signed a draft peace memorandum of understanding to resolve the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Signed digitally and remotely, with the French President present at Versailles, the agreement marks a significant step towards stability. Key provisions of the draft deal include the US lifting its naval blockade within thirty days and withdrawing its forces. In return, Iran will guarantee free commercial shipping through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz for sixty days. The deal also aims to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and formalise an end to regional hostilities, although the focus remains on how other regional actors will respond to the peace framework.
