The Delhi High Court will hear two PILs alleging excessive police force against students during the July 20 ‘Chalo Sansad’ march. The court has sought Delhi Police’s response within four weeks and directed that all relevant videos and records be preserved. Petitioners have sought an independent or judicial probe, alleging disproportionate force, use of spiked batons and violations of crowd-control procedures. The court clarified that it has not accepted the allegations as true and will hear the police’s version. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court Bar Association condemned the alleged lathi-charge and called for a fair, time-bound investigation.
