Tamil Nadu Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin has been detained by police after a case was registered over a controversial remark made during a speech on the Cauvery water dispute. The remark has been interpreted by political rivals as a sexual innuendo involving Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and actor Trisha. Udhayanidhi defended himself, saying he had not said anything wrong, and called the police action “vengeful”. He has also approached the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail. TVK and BJP leaders have strongly criticised his remarks, calling them obscene and disrespectful towards women.
