A stampede at Bihar’s Ashok Dham temple in Lakhisarai left seven people dead and more than a dozen injured on Monday morning. The incident took place around 6:45 am as a large number of devotees gathered at the temple on the third Monday of Sawan. Officials said crowd pressure caused a barricade to break, while a rumour about a fallen electric pole or live wire reportedly triggered panic. Several devotees fell on one another. Eyewitnesses, however, raised questions over the crowd-management arrangements. The injured were taken to hospital. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the stampede and the arrangements made at the temple.
