A US Air Force C-17 Globemaster III and a C-40B flew from the United States to Moscow, triggering speculation over a highly sensitive American mission in Russia. Reports said CIA Director John Ratcliffe was on board, although neither Washington nor Moscow publicly confirmed the details of his trip. The visit could be linked to efforts to restart Russia-Ukraine peace talks, concerns over a possible new Russian mobilisation, or US attempts to pressure Moscow over its support for Iran. Another possibility is that the CIA chief’s trip involved negotiations over the release of American citizens detained in Russian prisons. In this video, we explain all three possibilities and why Ratcliffe’s reported Moscow visit could be significant for the Russia-Ukraine war, Iran conflict and US-Russia relations.
