A deadly flash flood in Nepal has caused widespread devastation, leaving nearly 700 people dead and over 2,500 missing across the region. A full-scale rescue operation is yet to begin for around 600 people trapped inside a flooded tunnel due to a severe lack of manpower, technical equipment, and expertise. Rising water levels in the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers have triggered evacuation alerts in several areas, although officials note the surge is gradually subsiding. In Chitwan district alone, 233 bodies have been recovered, prompting local authorities to plan mass burials to prevent the spread of epidemics as bodies decompose. To assist the Himalayan nation, India dispatched its fourth consignment of relief via C-130 aircraft, carrying 11 tons of aid, including search and rescue equipment, forensic DNA analysis teams, and essential supplies like blankets and tarpaulins. Rescue operations face continuous hurdles from rain and massive debris while efforts continue to clear roads.
