RBI is preparing to test plastic currency notes in India, starting with ₹10 and ₹20 denominations, but the conditions attached to the project have raised some unusual questions. According to a recent Indian Express report, companies bidding to supply polymer substrate for RBI’s plastic notes have been asked to maintain a firewall from China and Pakistan and certify that no animal tallow or animal-derived DNA is used in the material.
