The severe floods in the Mandakini River at Chitrakoot have broken a 23-year record, unleashing such fury that chaos and distress have gripped the area stretching from Ramghat to the surrounding localities. The powerful currents washed away a bridge and submerged shops and temples. Many people were stranded in the floodwaters and are being rescued with the help of helicopters and boats.
