India’s Gold and Silver ETF rules have changed from September 7, 2026, bringing a new framework for how these ETFs trade and how their opening prices are discovered. In this episode of Kharcha Pani, we explain in simple terms what a Gold ETF and Silver ETF are, why an ETF can sometimes trade at a premium or discount to the actual value of gold or silver, and how investors can end up paying more than the underlying asset is worth. We also explain SEBI’s new dynamic price bands, the new pre-open call auction for Gold and Silver ETFs, changes in base price calculation, cross-exchange synchronisation, and what iNAV means for a retail investor. Gold and Silver ETFs also fell by around 2% on the day the new rules came into effect, but that fall was driven by global factors and not by the SEBI rule change. If you invest in Gold ETF, Silver ETF, gold, silver or commodity funds, this episode explains what has changed and what you should check before buying.
