The ancient standing Hanuman idol in Ujjain has become the centre of a major controversy amid a road-widening project. Attempts to shift the idol using JCB and cranes reportedly failed, as the idol did not move from its position. IIT Indore experts and archaeology specialists are now examining its foundation, surrounding soil and possible installation technique.
Historians and archaeologists have suggested that the idol could be very old, possibly dating back around 1,000 years, but there is no final historical confirmation yet.
