Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s childhood friend Asgar Ali Vora has been fighting a land dispute in Maharashtra for nearly 15 years. Vora claims that he bought around 2,810 square metres of land in Bhayandar East in 1989, but later lost control of the property. After meeting PM Modi on September 8, the case came under renewed government attention. BJP MLA Narendra Mehta has now agreed to cancel his company’s deal and give up possession of the disputed land. But the land has still not gone back to Vora. A developer has raised legal claims over the property and says Vora had already lost the case in court. So what exactly is the dispute, who claims ownership of the land, and why is the matter still unresolved? Watch the full report.
