LIVE | Has India’s education system become so weak that students need coaching institutes as crutches? Coachings in kota, Kanpur, Patna, Mukherjee Nagar and Old Rajendra Nagar teaches better than schools of the country? or the coaching classes have taken over the education system.
We have discussed about the PGs, dummy schools, topper hoardings and teachers who sell guaranteed ranks for JEE, NEET, UPSC CSE, SSC CGL Teacher vacancy and various other exams. India’s private coaching industry is worth about Rs 58,000 crore and may cross Rs 1 lakh crore by 2028. GST from coaching rose from Rs 2,240 crore in 2019-20 to Rs 5,517 crore in 2023-24. Foundation batches now start JEE and NEET prep from Class 10.
A Kota study found many students felt worse mental health, fatigue, loneliness and depression after joining coaching. NCRB figures show thousands of deaths among children and 18–30 year olds, with exam pressure often in the background. Unsafe hostels, paper leaks such as NEET 2026, and ads that “sell” the same topper across institutes add to the picture. IIT and NEET data show most high ranks still come through coaching.
In 2024 the government barred coaching below age 16, banned rank guarantees and asked for safety, refunds and counsellors. In 2026 the Prime Minister announced free online coaching.
