IIT Bombay has issued a statement after the death by suicide of a second-year Energy Science and Engineering student, saying the student was found using a mobile phone during an examination and had uploaded the question paper to ChatGPT. The institute says no disciplinary action was initiated and that the instructor and HoD counselled the student and assured him regarding his academic career. The circumstances surrounding the death are being looked into. Students have since held protests on campus, with reports of demands for justice, compensation and accountability.
