The Lallantop show will discuss the controversy surrounding the new UPI rules. The government has released a new framework regarding UPI. Following this, the biggest question being asked is whether common people will now have to pay charges for making UPI payments. The government has clarified that person-to-person (P2P) UPI payments will remain completely free. However, Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) will apply to certain large merchant transactions. Questions were raised in the meeting of Parliament’s Standing Committee on Finance regarding the decision to impose a 0.4% fee on UPI payments.
What is a P2P payment? What is MDR? And despite the government announcement stating no fees will be charged to customers, why is there concern among UPI users? We will understand through experts how this will impact retail shopkeepers. We will also examine whether this is the third blow to the economy after demonetization and GST.
In the northern Arabian Sea, a Pakistani Navy vessel rapidly approached an Indian Navy warship that was on routine patrol, resulting in a collision between the two. India lodged a strong protest regarding the unacceptable and unprofessional conduct of the Pakistani Navy unit at sea. The Chargé d’Affaires of the Pakistani High Commission was summoned to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
The Supreme Court had constituted a ‘High-Powered Enquiry Committee’ (HPEC) to investigate the police action during the CJP protest. A petition was filed in the Supreme Court regarding this, alleging bias against the committee. A three-judge bench headed by CJI Surya Kant clearly refused to reconstitute this inquiry committee. The court expressed its displeasure over the petitioners’ allegations and stated that these charges are based merely on concocted claims and prejudices.
