A puja at a home in Shambhupur village, Azamgarh, allegedly turned deadly on September 22 evening. Arvind Singh’s wife Babita had arranged the prayer ceremony, reportedly to help him quit alcohol. Two pandits were called in. Midway through the ritual, Arvind arrived, objected, and allegedly demanded the pandits’ Aadhaar cards, sparking an argument. Police say he then fired a licensed revolver, killing his wife and both pandits. He barricaded himself inside a room with his three young children as locals gathered and police rushed to the spot. Investigation and forensic reports are awaited.
