A late-night protest broke out at Chitkara University in Patiala after unverified social media rumours about a ‘ghost’ and two allegedly missing female students spread across student groups. The protest escalated into a clash with police, with a government police vehicle damaged and an officer allegedly manhandled. Police and the university said there was no confirmed report of any student death, while police began verifying the missing-student claims. The situation was later brought under control.
