Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is facing fresh questions after former Kerala Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson alleged that Kumar, while serving as an IAS officer in 2016, urged him to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha election on a BJP ticket from Pathanamthitta. Thomson said he declined the offer and that Kumar tried to persuade him to enter politics. This claim has surfaced amid the ongoing controversy over the Election Commission’s handling of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Indian Express reported that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had raised formal objections 14 times over 10 months regarding several decisions linked to SIR and electoral rolls.
